AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday said his party will oppose Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

The BJP's southern ally reiterated its stand against the implementation of the UCC after reporters asked Palaniswami questions on BJP's push for Uniform Civil Code.

Palaniswami said the position had already been made known in the party's manifesto released for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

"Read our manifesto, we have mentioned it clearly," Palaniswami said.

In the manifesto, under the topic ‘Secularism’, the party had said in 2019: "The AIADMK will urge the government of India to not bring any amendments to the Constitution for a Uniform Civil Code that will adversely affect the religious rights of minorities in India."

Earlier on Monday a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice meeting was held under the chairmanship of BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi in Parliament to discuss the agenda of the Uniform Civil Code.

Opposition MPs said in the meeting that it is necessary to keep in mind that the UCC is not just about one family law, but about the matters related to every religion, caste and community of the society, so all sections of the society must be kept in mind.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar on Tuesday said once the Uniform Civil Code is implemented it will put an end to religious rites and the practice of untouchability.

It will also help in curbing atrocities against women, the RSS leader said.

The remarks were made by Indresh Kumar while attending an event in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The RSS leader said, "There are more people who favour the Uniform Civil Code than against it. Religious rites and the practice of untouchability will end after the UCC is implemented."The All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Wednesday said it has sent its objections on Uniform Civil Code to the Law Commission and demanded that not just tribals but every religious minority should be kept out of the purview of such a statute.

The working committee of the Board had approved the draft response prepared on UCC in the executive meeting on June 27 and on Wednesday it was presented for discussion in the virtual general meeting of the Board, the spokesman of the Board Kasim Rasool Ilyas said.
