NEW DELHI : The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to get a new party president on Monday once the election process is completed.
Senior leaders of the party said that working president J.P. Nadda is expected to become the new party president to replace Union home minister Amit Shah.
The speculation over a new BJP president started soon after Shah joined the Union government after the BJP won the 2019 general elections to return to power for a consecutive term.
“The day will start with filing of nominations. Then the documents will be scrutinized. A formal announcement will take place in the evening. In case voting has to take place, it will happen on 21 January," said a senior BJP leader in the know of the schedule.
Nadda was given the charge of Uttar Pradesh for the 2019 general elections. He has also spent time in Bihar on organizational duty and enjoys a good equation with all the members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from Bihar.
Nadda was not only the general secretary of BJP, but also the health minister during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was also the health minister when the BJP was in power in Himachal Pradesh.
