G20 Summit 2023: Amid the ongoing summit in India, PM Modi invited US President Joe Biden for a dinner on Friday. Soon after the release of Indo-US joint statement, Congress leader Manish Tewari attacked the government and asked whether India is providing land to a US military base.
The White house released India-US joint statement on Friday. Is the statement “precursor to providing US military bases on Indian Soil? The NDA/BJP will have to clarify in Parliament,” questioned Manish Tiwari in his latest post on X.
Till now, no BJP leader has reacted to Manish Tiwari claims and responed to his demand of discussion of the issue in parliament.
"The leaders applauded the conclusion of a second Master Ship Repair Agreement, with the most recent agreement signed by the U.S. Navy and Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders, Ltd., in August 2023. Both sides recommitted to advancing India’s emergence as a hub for the maintenance and repair of forward-deployed U.S. Navy assets and other aircraft and vessels,” he added in his post.
He also shared the link of the joint statement press release. Through his post, Tiwary highlighted the Master Ship Repair Agrement that wook place between the US Navy and Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in August this year.
G20 Summit in Delhi
The attack by the Congress leader came in the backdrop of the ongoing G20 Summit in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit with US President Joe Biden hours after he landed in New Delhi to attend the mega conclave on Friday.
Soon after the meeting, White House released a statement of the meeting. It mentioned that the two leaders talked on various issues and also applauded the conclusion of a second Master Ship Repair Agreement signed between American Navy and Mumbai-based Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders in August 2023.
During their meeting, President Joe Biden and PM Modi recommitted to advancing India's emergence as a hub for the maintenance repair of forward-deployed US Navy assets and other aircraft and vessels, according to the White House statement.
Manish Tewari also highlighted to a specific part of the India-US joint statement, that said mentioned the Master Ship Repair Agreement between the US Navy and Masgaon Dock Shipbuilders Pvt Ltd.
The two leaders also welcomed further announcement from US industry related to investment in India's maintenance repair and overhaul capabilities and facilities for aircraft.
