NEW DELHI : Days after West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar criticized the law and order situation in the state, the Union home ministry has cleared the decks to provide Z-category security to the state governor.
While Dhankar – like other state governors – was being given state police cover, he will now be given protection by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). At the same time, his cover will not just be restricted to his movement within the state, but to the rest of the country as well.
The matter, however, is yet to undergo a security review, a senior official familiar with the development said.
Earlier this week, Dhankar hit out at state chief minister Mamata Banerjee for “sidelining" him during a Durga Puja event hosted by the CM.
