Karnataka CM Highlights: Karnataka Congress to hold CLP meeting in Bengaluru on May 30 to elect new legislative leader

The Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has convened a meeting on Saturday at 4 pm amid ongoing efforts to formalise the leadership transition in the state following the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

According to a letter issued by CLP Secretary Allamaprabhu Patil on Friday, the meeting will be held at the 'Sammelana Sabhangana' (Conference Hall), Room No 334, on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. The meeting will be chaired by Siddaramaiah in his capacity as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party.

The letter stated that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, Leader of the House in the Legislative Council NS Boseraju and all working presidents of the party will be present at the meeting.

"Therefore, I have been directed by the Leader of the Legislature Party to request your mandatory presence and participation in this meeting without fail," the letter said.

Kharge meets Siddaramaiah

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday met outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in New Delhi and praised his contribution to public life, describing him as a leader committed to social justice, equality and the welfare of marginalised communities.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, Kharge said Siddaramaiah's political journey from humble beginnings to serving twice as Karnataka Chief Minister reflected dignity, compassion and dedication to public service. The Congress chief further expressed gratitude for Siddaramaiah's contribution to Karnataka and the party.

Meanwhile, outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah arrived to meet Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the national capital, a day after tendering his resignation from the post.

Siddaramaiah was accompanied by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala during the meeting, where discussions will be held on the formation of the next government in the state.

They are also scheduled to meet party chief Mallikarjun Kharge later in the day.

Sources told news agency ANI that several ministers from the Siddaramaiah cabinet are unlikely to find a place in the proposed DK Shivakumar-led cabinet. The party leadership is also considering appointing four Deputy Chief Ministers to maintain social and regional balance in the new dispensation.

The date of the Congress Legislative Party meeting, which seems to be a formality, will be finalised today, following which the date of the oath ceremony of DK Shivakumar as Chief Minister of Karnataka will be decided, sources added. Out of four Rajya Sabha seats up for polls in Karnataka, Congress is set to comfortably win two and has an edge on the third seat where it needs a few votes, ANI reported citing sources.

Siddaramaiah avaru 'stood firmly beside me like a pillar of strength': Shivakumar

DK Shivakumar, the frontrunner for Karnataka's new CM, posted a lengthy X post for outgoing CM Siddaramaiah and thanked him for his support over the years.

“Siddaramaiah avaru has stood firmly beside me like a pillar of strength. Together, we have worked shoulder to shoulder in strengthening the party and taking its vision to the people,” he wrote.

Shivakumar also said it has been a privilege to serve alongside Siddaramaiah as Deputy Chief Minister and to “continuously learn from his experience, wisdom, and political foresight.”

“I sincerely hope his guidance will continue to inspire and strengthen all of us in the years ahead as we work towards Karnataka’s progress and welfare.”

Siddaramaiah meets Congress Chief Kharge

Siddaramaiah met with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge at his Delhi residence.

He was accompanied by Karnataka Ministers Priyank Kharge, KJ George and his son MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

The meeting comes after the outgoing Karnataka CM met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day.
