NEW DELHI: First Lady of the United States Melania Trump on Wednesday said she is looking forward to her visit to India later this month and thanked prime minister Narendra Modi for his invitation.

“Thank you @narendramodi for the kind invitation. Looking forward to visiting Ahmedabad & New Dehli later this month. @POTUS & I are excited for the trip & to celebrate the close ties between the #USA & #India," the First Lady said in a Twitter post late Wednesday.

The First Lady’s post was in response to one put out by PM Modi on 12 February which said: “Extremely delighted that @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS will visit India on 24th and 25th February. India will accord a memorable welcome to our esteemed guests.

This visit is a very special one and it will go a long way in further cementing India-USA friendship."

On Tuesday, the White House and India’s foreign ministry announced that US president Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump would be visiting India on 24-25 February. The US president and his wife will be visiting New Delhi and Ahmedabad during the two day visit with a possible visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra squeezed into their schedule.

While official meetings and ceremonies will be part of their schedule in New Delhi, Modi and Trump are to address a joint event “Kem Chho Trump" in Ahmedabad — on the lines of the “Howdy Modi" event in Houston last year during Modi’s US visit. Trump had joined Modi at the Houston event.
