Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: As the monsoon session of Parliament begins today, July 20, opposition parties will address issues like Manipur violence, railway safety, unemployment, inflation, India-China border status, and trade balance in the House. The customary all-party meeting, attended by 34 parties and 44 leaders, was conducted on Wednesday that aimed at ensuring a smooth session that will continue until August 11, with 17 sittings.
On the first day of Parliament's Monsoon Session, some parties plan to move an adjournment motion on Manipur violence and other issues. The opposition demands the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the discussion.
The government has planned heavy legislative business for the monsoon session of Parliament beginning Thursday with Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023, among 31 bills on its agenda.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on the incident of women being paraded naked in Manipur, the Congress on Thursday accused him of playing politics by mentioning Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while "breaking his silence" on the northeastern state and said this was "too little too late" and "mere words won't do anymore".
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Thursday said he was glad Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the ongoing violence in Manipur but in the same breath demanded the PM to make a statement inside the Parliament.
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP said, "Deeply concerned about the fact that Rime Minister Narendra Modi was silent for so long. None of us could understand it. We are very glad that he broke his silence, now we would like him to approach the issue in Parliament to discuss it..."

Opposition parties on Thursday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘silence on the Manipur violence’ far too long. This was despite that fact that PM Modi, earlier today, stated the he is ‘pained’ by the sexual atrocities against women in Manipur and promised to take strict action against the culprits.
Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 PM on Thursday after opposition members created uproar demanding a discussion on the Manipur violence issue under Rule 267.
Soon after the House met at 12 noon, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted eight notices by members for a short duration discussion under the rule.

This makes it clear that they absolutely do not want the Parliament to function..."
Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm over differences of opinions among MPs regarding Short Duration Discussion and Discussion under Rule 267 in the House, on the Manipur situation.

Leaders of several opposition parties met at the chamber of Mallikarjun Kharge in the Parliament complex to chalk out their joint strategy for the Monsoon Session which is set to begin on Thursday.
At the meeting, the leaders decided to raise the Manipur violence issue and demand a discussion on the situation in the northeastern state.

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for almost an hour on Thursday as a mark of respect to sitting MP and senior BJP leader Hardwar Dubey who passed away last month.
When the House met on the opening day of the monsoon session, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar mentioned of the death of Dubey, who was elected to the Upper House in November 2020.

The monsoon session of Parliament begins on Thursday and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged the MPs of all parties for meaningful discussions in the House on issues of national and public interest.
The Monsoon session will begin at 11 am.
"I've given a notice under Rule 267 over this issue (of Manipur violence). The Chairman also must have seen the visuals, he also must have seen Manipur burning over the last 2.5 months. The Congress has been seeking a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur issue, which is facing ethnic violence since May 3 and has seen many fatalities.
