New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that people will have to become stakeholders in making India a $5 trillion economy in the next five years and the target can only be achieved if every citizen of the country works towards the goal.
While making people stakeholders in the development process of the country, Modi also said that people should discuss and debate ideas on how to make India a $5 trillion economy but be careful of those who are 'professional pessimists' and do not think any target is achievable.
"For some reason, there is a thinking in the country that poverty is a virtue, it has become our thinking to be proud of poverty. India cannot wait any longer to become a developed country. If the size of the economy grows, the income of the people will also increase. We have a dream of making India a $5 trillion economy and it can be fulfilled if everyone comes together, it is not just the task of the government but every citizen should work towards it," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public event in Varanasi on Saturday.
Talking to BJP workers during the event, Modi said there was a need to be careful with those pessimistic and believe that nothing can be achieved by the country.
"There are some people who are professional pessimists. Criticism of an idea is important. Ideas should be debated. There should be discussion on the steps taken and suggested by Modi, but why say that we will not be able to become a $5 trillion economy? Why not discuss what steps are needed to make India a $5 trillion economy? Why not give suggestions? It is not an easy target and we will have to work hard for it," said Modi.
The prime minister said that the government was only a small factor in making India a $5 trillion economy because the real work will be done by the people of the country. Modi said that people in the villages, farmers and the poor could become the real strength of the government to work for the development of India.
"People may think that this is not possible, and it will not happen. But that is not the right way of thinking. We should never keep our targets small. We will have to work hard to achieve it, but I am confident that the collective strength of people can achieve anything," he added.
