NEW DELHI :
Former union finance minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said he was "pleasantly surprised" to receive the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday which was last week. Chidambaram is currently in judicial custody in Tihar Jail related to investigations to the INX-Media case.
"Dear Mr. Prime Minister Modi @narendramodi @PMOIndia. Pleasantly surprised to receive your greetings on my birthday (sent to my village address and forwarded to me)," Chidambaram said in a Twitter post put out on behalf of his family along with a photo of the greetings.
Taking a jibe at the investigation agencies, Chidambaram added: "As you have wished, I want to continue to serve the people. Unfortunately, your investigating agencies have prevented me from doing so." He added that once the "present harassment ends", he will be back among the people to serve.
On 5 September, Chidambaram was sent to judicial custody to Tihar jail, after the conclusion of his CBI custody in the INX Media case.
CBI registered an FIR in May 2017 for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of ₹305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was the finance minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-1 government.
Chidambaram has been active on social media via posts by his family and has in several posts taken on the union government for engaging in political vendetta.
