All-party meet adopts resolution condemning Pulwama terror attack

New Delhi: A day after Union home minister Rajnath Singh assessed the situation in Kashmir, an all-party meet chaired by the minister on Saturday concluded that “terrorism in India was being actively encouraged from across the border.”

Party representatives from across political parties were in attendance, to preside over the suicide attack in Pulwama that killed at least 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

In the resolution passed at the end of the meeting, while the attack was condemned, the parties concluded that the nation expressed its determination to fight the challenges arising from cross-border terrorism.

“India has in the last three decades faced the menace of cross-border terrorism. Of late, terrorism in India is being actively encouraged by forces across the border. India has displayed both firmness and resilience in dealing with these challenges,” a statement from the home ministry said.

Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Jyotiraditya Scindia; Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien; National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan and Union minister for parliamentary affairs Narendra Singh Tomar also attended the meet.

“We have made it clear that Congress president Rahul Gandhi on behalf of our party has said, we wanted to repeat that in the meeting. At this hour the entire country is mourning, angry,” Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, told reporters after the meeting.

“In an hour like this, our party has decided that we will stand strongly with our Aarmy forces, BSF, CRPF and local police. We also decided that we disagree with government on a lot of issue but...right now we stand with the government for ending terrorism,” he added.
