Supreme Court issues notice to Rahul Gandhi in contempt case

NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi with respect to the contempt petition filed against him by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Meenakshi Lekhi.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also ordered the contempt petition to be tagged with the Rafale deal case, which will be heard on 30 April.
Further, it exempted Gandhi from personal appearance in the criminal contempt case. “Personal presence of the alleged contemnor is dispensed with, for the present," the bench added.
Meanwhile. the Patiala House Court on Tuesday transferred a complaint against Gandhi for alleged seditious remarks he made in 2016 against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a special court for members of Parliament.
The complaint, filed by advocate Joginder Tuli, referred to Gandhi’s speech at a public meeting in 2016 where he accused Modi of hiding behind the blood of soldiers and cashing in on their sacrifice.
