New Delhi: Defending the decision of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said there was no space for anything temporary in the country. Modi was a speaking at a programme in Paris where he addressed the Indian community.

Although Modi did not name Article 370, he instead chose to use the word temporary in his speech. The Prime Minister also spoke about the government's decision to make instant triple talaq illegal and said it will empower the Muslim women in India, and the blessings of these women will strengthen the country.

“There is no space for anything temporary in India anymore. It took us 70 years to remove temporary. I do not know if I should laugh or cry about it," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday while speaking at a community programme in Paris.

The timing of the visit of the Prime Minister assumes significance since this is the first time Modi spoke about the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A on foreign soil. Interestingly, the G-7 meeting is also in France this time from 24-26 August.

The comments made by Modi comes on a day when the Asia Pacific Group of the FATF, a global watchdog for terror financing and money laundering, has put Pakistan in a terror blacklist for its failure to curb funneling of funds to groups responsible for scores of attacks in India. While putting Pakistan in an 'Enhanced Expedited Follow Up List', the Financial Action Task Force's Asia Pacific Group also found that the country was non-compliant on 32 of 40 compliance parameters related to terror financing and money laundering. The FATF APG meeting was held in Canberra, Australia.

In the recently concluded Parliament session, the controversial Article 370 and Article 35-A were abrogated and the government managed to pass a law for the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir state. According to the Bill passed in Parliament, Jammu and Kashmir has been made a union territory with legislative assembly, whereas Ladakh has been made into another union territory without a legislative assembly.

Talking about the idea of New India, Modi said corruption, nepotism, and terrorism were being tackled like never before. “There is no question of getting tired or stopping now... The government has taken many bold decisions in its first 75 days, the government has not completed 100 days yet. Normally the first 100 days are for celebrations and congratulatory messages from people," Modi added.

The Prime Minister also said the friendship between France and India was unbreakable and strong bond. He said good friendship meant staying together during difficult and good times. “When people are talking about next generation infra... when I say infra, it IN of India and FRA of France which makes it Infra," the PM further said in his speech.

In the course of the public address, Modi also talked about the recently concluded Parliament session and said that it was the highest performing session of Parliament in the last six decades. The Prime Minister pointed out that the productivity of Parliament session increased because of the support and mandate of the people in the 2019 general elections.
