HYDERABAD : In a series of major decisions in its first cabinet meeting, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday said all women who send their children to school will receive 15,000 from the state government from 26 January next year.

Chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cabinet also cancelled the services of outsourcing agencies and consultancies with immediate effect and regularized contract employees, based on their qualification.

For the agriculture sector, the government said it will purchase paddy from farmers, pay premium toward a 100% crop insurance scheme, allot 2,000 crore as natural calamity fund, and 3,000 crore towards a market stabilization fund.

The new cabinet also decided to form a commission for the development and welfare of farmers. With the chief minister as its chairman, the body will have about half a dozen members, including farmer leaders and agricultural experts. Last week, Reddy had announced that all farmers, including peasants, will be given 12,500 a year as input subsidy before the sowing season.

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet also decided to provide interest-free crop loans to farmers. Termed as ‘YSR interest-free loans’, the government itself will pay the interest directly to the concerned banks, said a government press release.

In a major decision, the cabinet also decided to allot housing sites to all eligible people and register the sites in the name of women. The criteria for identifying these eligible people has not been announced yet. Construction of 2.5 million houses will begin under the ‘YSR Housing’ scheme.

The cabinet also decided to conduct judicial inquiries with regard to alleged irregularities in various government departments. Ministers will be removed immediately on corruption charges if any, proven or not, the press release added.

Jagan and his ministers also took the decision to cancel the outsourcing agencies and consultancies with immediate effect.

Apart from those decisions, the AP government will also give all government schools a facelift in four years. Officials will have to take before and after pictures, at present and after renovation, which will be displayed at 40,000 schools, said the release. It added that a State Education Fee Regulatory Commission will be set up to provide quality education with reasonable fees, and that private schools must provide 25% seats free of cost to the poor.
