Blue Origin launch LIVE: Katy Perry, eminent journalist Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez—fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and three other women, part of NS-31 mission crew safely landed on Earth after their brief journey beyond the Kármán line, the internationally established edge of space.

The 'historic' space mission marked the first time in 63 years, that an all female crew blasted off into the space, after Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova's solo flight in 1963.

How long was Katy Perry in space?

The Blue Origin NS-31 mission lasted for 10 minutes, and 21 seconds, from liftoff to touchdown. Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Kerianne Flynn, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen were all part of the mission crew.

Katy Perry to write a song

Talking to reporters, Katy Perry said :“It is the highest high, and it is surrender to the unknown, trust. … I couldn’t recommend this experience more.”

When asked if she would write a song about the journey, Perry said, “Oh, for sure, 100%.”

‘Welcome back to Earth’

A puff of dust rose over the West Texas desert as the New Shepard capsule, carrying all six passengers, touched down safely.

"Welcome back to Earth," mission controllers announced over the communications loop, marking the successful end of the suborbital journey.

Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey, the Kardashians, and others present at the site cheered loudly as the New Shepard took off.

Blue Origin gets 'GO' for launch

Mission controllers gave the final go-ahead for liftoff, confirming that engineers are receiving healthy data from the rocket systems. With all checks complete, the mission is now set to launch in less than 10 minutes.

The Kardashians, including Kris Jenner, and Khole Kardashian are also present at the launch site.

“We’re here to support our girlfriend and our friends, and I never thought that we’d be talking to you from a space launch for sure,” Jenner told reporters.

Reportedly, Katy Perry dedicated the trip to her daughter.

The Blue Origin New Shepard mission NS-31, its 11th human flight, will lift off from Launch Site One in West Texas on Monday, April 14.

The Blue Origin NS-31 crew includes a total of six women. Apart from Katy Perry, the crew includes:
1. Journalist Gayle King,

2. fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos - Lauren Sanchez,

3. film producer Kerianne Flynn,

4. former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe,

5. Amanda Nguyen, who is a prominent civil rights activist and research scientist who worked on the last NASA space shuttle mission.

Who is the owner of Blue Origin?

Blue Origin, is a space company founded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. The company's New Shepard spacecraft is named in honour of Alan Shepard, the first American in space.

New Shepard is a fully reusable suborbital rocket system, designed from the outset for human spaceflight.
