These days, it’s not business-as-usual for Dr Alka Jain, a doctor posted at a primary health centre (PHC) in Madhya Pradesh’s Chindwara district. Even months after India rolled out its nationwide covid-19 vaccination programme, Jain had noticed that there was a great degree of hesitancy among the residents of her rural outpost. Neither the brutal second wave nor the Union government’s decision to make vaccination free for all adults in late-June had managed to change attitudes.
