Australian star batter David Warner struck his second consecutive ton of the tournament, taking his cumulative tally of centuries in world cups to six. With this, the in-form opener has become the Australian batter with the highest number of world cup centuries, surpassing former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting who has five to his name.
Warner achieved the feat during the match against Netherlands at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 25. Batting first, Australia posted a mammoth total of 399/8, of which Warner contributed 104 runs. His knock came off 93 balls, and comprised of 11 fours and 3 sixes.
In the last match against Pakistan, Warner had struck 163 runs off 124 balls, in an inning which included 14 fours and 9 sixes.
Internet was abuzz with Warner hitting a second century in a row, with a number of fans calling him the “best opening batter of this generation”.
A number of fans were also thrilled by his ‘Pushpa’ style celebration after hitting the century.
Australia is currently placed at the fourth position of the World Cup 2023 points table. A win against Netherlands will increase the team's cumulative points to six. It will, however, remain behind India, South Africa and New Zealand.
