Bangladesh earthquake temporarily halts BAN vs IRE 2nd Test; Ireland players come out on ground - Watch viral video

The Bangladesh vs Ireland second Test was temporarily halted for a few seconds after 5.5-magnitude earthquake rocked Dhaka and several parts of the country. Play resumed after few seconds.

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake rocked Dhaka and several parts of Bangladesh on Friday morning as the ongoing second Test between Bangladesh and Ireland was temporarily halted at the Sher-e-bangla stadium in Mirpur. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake hit near Narsingdi.

On Day 3, Ireland were165/5 in the 56th over of the second innings when the tremors were felt on the ground. While the play was stopped for a brief period, the Ireland players in the dressing room, quickly came out on the ground, thus causing a short interruption.

“Goodness. Play has stopped here due to a minor tremor/earthquake,” Cricket Ireland wrote on X. “A 5.7-magnitude earthquake has been felt in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh today at 10:38 am,” a statement on Bangladesh Meteorological Department read on its website.

Play was halted for just three minutes from 10:38 AM (local time) to 10:41 AM in Dhaka when the tremors were felt. Troubled and shaken by the vibration, members of the media and several Ireland and Bangladesh players came out on the field to find open spaces.

The cricketers on the ground were also seen looking upwards to check if the floodlights above are moving. On the stands, fans were also seen searching for open spaces and several looked worried.

Several buildings in Dhaka swayed and the residents rushed outdoors as a precaution.

100 on 100th from Mushfiqur Rahim

Earlier on Day 2, Mushfiqur Rahim joined an elite group of players to score a hundred in his 100th Test match. The wicketkeeper-batter became the first-ever Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 Test matches. He scored a valiant 106 off 214 balls to help his team to 476 all out in the first innings.

In reply, Ireland have crossed the 250-run mark at the loss of eight wickets before Tea on Day 3. Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker is playing on an unbeaten 70 while Stephen Doheny (46) and Jordan Neill (49) missed their respective fifties by smaller margins.

For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam picked up three wickets while Hasan Murad had grabbed two so far.
