Brydon Carse became the latest England cricketer to get involved into a nightclub brawl after the pacer was handcuffed by police in another drinking episode. A video circulating on social media, Carse was seen in handcuffs with four police officers surrounding him.
Carse's England and Durham teammate Matthew Potts was also seen in the video trying to talk to his 31-year-old fellow cricketer. Also appeared in the video is former England captain Ben Stokes, who was also involved in a similar incident earlier in the year and followed it up with retirement.
According to a report at The Telegraph, Carse is understood to have been detained briefly by the police but not put behind bars. Carse has been named in England's squad for the second Test against Pakistan, starting from August 27 at Lord's in London. He returned to his team hotel soon after.
However, it is unclear for what reason Carse was placed in handcuffs outside the busy nightspot. Carse was a member of the England squad for the first Test against Pakistan, that was completed inside three days.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are aware of the Carse's incident. “We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible,” ECB said, according to The Telegraph.
After the first Test against Pakistan ended in three days, Carse was sent to play a County Championship match for Durham at Derby. Against Derbyshire, Carse took two wickets while Stokes scalped 5/17 as Durham pulled off a superb win.
It is believed that following the win, some of the members of the side went to celebrate the win and that's where the incident occurred. Notably, Carse has not played for England since the Ashes where he was England's leading wicket-taker against Australia in five Tests.
So far, Carse played 14 Tests and 44 matches for England so far. In 2024, Carse was suspended for three months by the Cricket Regulator for betting on cricket between 2017 and 2019, which contravenes rules.
However, this is not the first time drinking episodes had put England Cricket in the limelight. Most recently, current white-ball skipper Harry Brook was punched by a nightclub bouncer in Wellington last year in November.
During the Ashes, a mid-series break in Noosa caught Carse, Brook and Will Jacks was pictures during the infamous trip last winter. Post that, Stokes and Gus Atkinson were caught breaking the midnight curfew and stayed beyond the time limit during the home Test series against New Zealand.
