ICC cricket World Cup 2019: Australia take on plucky Afghanistan

  • Australia and Afghanistan get their World Cup campaign underway on Saturday
  • Australia start massive favourites against minnows Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s progress in cricket has been an astonishing saga in the history of sport. However, it would be imprudent to expect miracles from them.

On the face of it, Australia should breeze through. The bowling’s always been strong, the batting’s been reinforced after the return of prodigals Smith and Warner.

Of course, Afghanistan will be bereft of any pressure which works to their advantage. Wily spinners Rashid Khan and Mohamed Nabi and big-hitting Mohammed Shahzad can be dangerous.

So, while Australia start firm favourites, they can’t afford to drop guard.

Key Players: Warner, Starc; Rashid, Nabi
