Home / Sports / Cricket News /  ICC cricket World Cup 2019: India take on Pakistan in marquee tie

The marquee match of this World Cup is at the mercy of the weather gods. Weather forecast for Manchester remains foreboding with rain predicted all through Sunday.

In the event that the match is played, most likely with overs truncated, India will take the field with a distinct edge. History is on their side, never having lost to Pakistan in World Cup tournaments and more pertinently, also current form.

Man to man, India have more talent and experience and consistency. Yes, Dhawan will be missed, but the bench strength is good too.

India’s batting has greater depth and bowling better variety, though the skills and pace of pace like Aamir and Wahab will pose a potent challenge to Rohit, Rahul, Kohli in the top order, especially given the bleak weather in Manchester.

The lead up to this match too leans in India’s favour. Where Kohli & Co have registered two authoritative wins, Pakistan have been up and down, with only one victory from four matches.

Significantly, however, this lone win came against tournament favourites England. Against all expectations, Pakistan, who had been bundled out for a paltry 105 against West Indies, ran up a formidable score of 348 to stun the home team.

This unpredictability remains the biggest threat to India. Which Pakistan team will show up on the day – of sizzling brilliance or utter mediocrity -- is the moot issue.

Key Players: Kohli, Bumrah; Babar, Aamir
