Ind VS NZ, CT 2025: Playing the third Group A match against New Zealand in Dubai at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday, India skipper Rohit Sharma set an unwanted record and became the first team leader to lose 10th consecutive toss in ODIs.

Also, this was India’s 13th consecutive toss loss in ODIs since the World Cup 2023 final, which set a world record for the most tosses lost in a row by any team in the format’s history. Earlier, India broke the Netherlands’ previous record of 11 tosses lost between 2011 and 2013 in ODIs.

Though toss plays an important factor for any team setting the tone if they would win the match or loose, but for India skipper Rohit Sharma, things have gone well so far.

As per stats, complied by InSport, legendary West Indian batter Brian Lara holds the record for the most consecutive toss losses by a captain in ODIs, with 12 between October 1998 and May 1999.

He is followed by former Netherlands captain Peter Borren, who lost 11 tosses from March 2011 to August 2013. India's Rohit Sharma lost 10 consecutive tosses in ODIs since November 2023.

Also, between November 2023 and the present, India lost 13 consecutive ODI tosses, followed by the Netherlands at 11 between March 2011 and August 2013. England lost 9 consecutive ODI tosses between January 2023 and September 2023 and between January 2017 and May 2017.

After losing the toss, India have scored 249 in 50 overs. For India Rohit Sharma scored 15, Shubman Gill 2, Virat Kohli 11, Shreyas Iyer 79, Axar Patel 42, KL Rahul 23, Hardik Pandya 45, Ravindra Jadeja 16, Mohammed Shami 5 and Kuldeep Yadav* 1.

For NZ, Matt Henry took a fifer, while Kyle Jamieson, William ORourke, Mitchell Santner, and Rachin Ravindra picked one wicket each.
