The Indian team start their campaign with a comprehensive 59-run win over Sri Lanka. While Deepti Sharma starred with three wickets, Shree Charani and Sneh Rana picked two wickets each. For Sri Lanka, captain Chamari Athapaththu top scored with 43. Sri Lanka were all out for 211/10 in 45.4 overs.

Half-tons from Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma and their century partnership helped India to a competitive 269/8 in 47 overs, in a rain-truncated ICC Women's World Cup 2025 opener. While Amanjot was dismissed for 57, Deepti managed 53 while Sneh Rana contributed with 28 not out towards the end.

But after it was deemed unfit following the Chinnaswamy stampede, Bengaluru was stripped of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 calendar, with Navi Mumbai replacing it. Following a revised schedule, Guwahati was given the hosting rights for the opening game.
