
India vs Australia 2nd ODI highlights: Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly struck fluent fifties as Australia clinched the three-match ODI series with a convincing two-wicket win over India in the second game, in Adelaide on Thursday.
Put in to bat, India posted a modest 264 for nine despite skipper Rohit Sharma's return to form with a 97-ball 73 (7x4, 2x6). Shreyas Iyer contributed 61while Adam Zampa got 4 for 60. Xavier Bartlett took 3 for 39 including Virat Kohli for a duck.
In reply, Australia chased down the target with more than three overs to spare with Connolly remaining unbeaten on a 53-ball 61 (5x4, 1x6). India now trail the series 0-2, giving Australia an unassailable lead going into the final ODI in Sydney on Saturday.
"Nice to beat India. It's always been a good battle against them. Two teams that adapt to the conditions really well. Mitch (Marsh) is relaxed, never emotional. We run our own show with the ball," Zampa said.
“(Josh) Hazlewood was unbelievable. Our bowling unit kept trying to pick wickets. It was awesome batting (from the youngsters), the future is bright for Australian cricket. We'll certainly enjoy the series win, won't celebrate too much tonight. India are a fantastic side, great experience,” Marsh said.
“We had just enough runs on the board. Never easy to defend those total when you drop a couple of catches. The first game, it (toss) was more crucial. Not much in this match as both teams played 50 overs. The wicket settled in nicely after 15-20 overs. (On Rohit) Never easy, coming back to play competitive cricket after a long time, I would say he missed out on a big knock,” said Gill.
That's it. Australia win the game with 22 balls to spare with Cooper Connolly remaining unbeaten on 59. Australia take the series 2-0. The final match of the series will be played in Sydney on Saturday.
