Seven ODIs have been played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune so far. There were four occasions when the team batting first won the match. So, the record is pretty well balanced for squads batting or bowling first. 

The last time an ODI match was held in this stadium was in March 2021. India beat England by 7 runs in that match. This is the first World Cup 2019 match being held over here.

Bangladesh began their World Cup campaign on a high note, defeating Afghanistan on October 7. Under the leadership of Shakib Al Hasan, the team celebrated a 6-wicket victory, primarily due to Shakib and Mehidy Hasan's all-round prowess and Najmul Hossain Shanto's crucial, undefeated batting performance.

It took Bangladesh 16 years and 13 ODIs to secure a win against India. Bangladesh started playing ODIs against India in 1988 and lost the first 12 matches. The 13th match was held in December 2004 in Dhaka during India's tour of Bangladesh. 

The Indian squad led by Sourav Ganguly fell 15 runs short of Bangladesh's 229/9 while S Sriram and Md Kaif scored the highest runs for India, 57 and 49 respectively. Mashrafe Mortaza, who scored unbeaten 31 and took 2 wickets, was the Man of the Match.

Let's have a look at Rohit Sharma's recent history of demolishing Bangladesh in ODIs. He scored a century in the 2015 World Cup clash, another in the 2017 Champions Trophy match and another century in the 2019 World Cup game. 

Bangladesh, on the other hand, would like Rohit to play like he did in the Asia Cup clash in September 2023. He was out for a duck in the match. Bangladesh won by 6 runs. Rohit didn't go for the Bangladesh tour, where the hosts won the ODI series 2-1.

Bangladesh players were seen practising in Pune ahead of the India match. Coach Allan Donald, a legendary South African pace bowler, was seen with the players. 

Bangladesh are yet to defeat India on Indian soil. Most of the ODI wins for Bangladesh against India happened in Mirpur, Bangladesh. For Test matches, Bangladesh have not managed to win against India yet.

India batted first while the openers, Lokesh Rahul and Rohit Sharma, gave their team a 180-run partnership. Rishabh Pant scored 48 off 41 balls to take India's total to 314/9 in 50 overs. 

Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for India while Shakib Al Hasan hit the highest score (66) for Bangladesh. Many Bangladeshi batters got out after getting a decent start. They were all out for 286.

India won the toss and decided to bat first. Rohit Sharma hit 137 off 126 balls, Suresh Raina 65 off 57 balls and Shikhar Dhawan 30 off 50 balls. India set a target of 303 for Bangladesh. 

Umesh Yadav broke the backbone of Bangladesh's batting by taking 4 wickets while Mohammed Shami claimed a couple of top-order batters. Bangladesh were bundled out for 193 in 45 overs.
