Virat Kohli (23), Ravindra Jadeja (27) got starts but could not convert them into big knocks. Nitish Kumar Reddy hit a 21-ball 20. For New Zealand, young Kristian Clarke took three wickets. Clarke is playing just his second ODI. India are leading the three-match series 1-0.
Probable XI: Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Hay (wk), Michael Bracewell (c), Zakary Foulkes, Kristian Clarke, Kyle Jamieson, Jayden Lennox
Probable XI: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk) Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
Daryl Mitchell finishes it off in style. Harshit Rana bangs it short outside off and Mitchell shuffles across a long way, stands tall and audaciously ramps it over his left shoulder. He doesn’t even get low, but the timing and elevation are perfect as the ball sails over the keeper’s head for four.
Mitchell tumbles to the ground after making contact, flashes a broad smile, and that sums up the night for New Zealand. The Kiwis secure a comprehensive 7-wicket victory to level the three-match ODI series.
New Zealand need 24 runs in 30 deliveries. Glenn Phillips 20 (18) and Daryl Mitchell 118 (109) in action for the Kiwis.
Daryl Mitchell's sublime form in ODIs continues. In the last six ODIs, the right hander has missed on a half-century only once. His last six ODI scores read 78 not out (vs England), 56 not out (vs England), 44 (vs England), 119 (vs West Indies), 84 (vs India) and 101 not out (vs India).
HUNDREDDD for Daryl Mitchell.. The most in-form batter in the New Zealand squad, Mitchell takes a single off Harshit Rana to reach his three figures. In the previous game, Mitchell had scored 84. NZ 235-3 (42)
OUTTT!!! Finally a wicket for wicket for India and Kuldeep Yadav. Will Young miscues a big hit as the ball goes high up in the air. Nitish Kumar Reddy, playing in place of injured Washington Sundar, takes the catch. Young goes back for 87, misses hundred by 13 runs. NZ 208/3 (38)
DROPPEDD!!! Prasidh Krishna drops a dolly at long on to give Daryl Mitchell and New Zealand a second life. Mitchell was on 80 at the time of the dropped catch. With both Mitchell and Will Young in their 80s, the game is certainly in the favour of New Zealand. The partnership for the third wicket has also crossed 150. NZ 200/2 (36)
Not just tight lines with the ball, the Indian fielders led by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also complementing their bowlers. For New Zealand, Daryl Mitchell and Will Young have already added more than 70 runs for the third wicket. NZ 117/2 (25)
New Zealand are scoring at a snail's pace. This certainly shows how the pitch has slowed down in the second innings. With the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja at India's disposal, it will be very difficult for New Zealand batters to score runs on this pitch. Will Young has already take more than 40 balls for his 30. NZ 79-2 (19)
OUTTTT!!! This time it's Prasidh Krishna who breaks the partnership. Henry Nicholls tries to pull a short-of-a-length delivery but the left hander drags it on to his stumps. Nicholls goes for 10 off 24 balls. NZ 47-2 (13)
OUTTTT!!! Harshit Rana delivers the first blow as Devon Conway is cleaned up. The balls angles in at Conway and the Kiwi does not move his feet much. Will Young comes to the crease. NZ 22/1 (5.2)
Its chase time in Rajkot. henry Nicholls and Devon Conway walk out in the middle for New Zealand. Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana have kept things tight for India. NZ 16/0 (3)
12 runs come in the final over as India finish on 284/7 in 50 overs. KL Rahul remains unbeaten on 112. New Zealand need 285 runs to win.
Hundred for KL Rahul in stye as he smashes a six off Kyle Jamieson for his three figures. What an innings it has been for Rahul under pressure. He opens his helmet and seems to be whistling as he waves his bat. This is his 8th ODI hundred and second against New Zealand. IND 272-7 (49)
A 57-run stand comes to an end as Nitish Kumar Reddy is caught by Glenn Phillips off the bowling of Zak Foulkes. Reddy goes for 21, Harshit Rana, who scored 29 in the last game, also perishes cheaply. KL Rahul, batting on 88, needs just 12 runs in the final two overs to complete his hundred. IND 258-7 (48)
Fifty fir KL Rahul. Once again, Rahul showed why he the best middle order India has at the moment as he held the innings together to ensure a competitive total for India. He completed his fifty with a boundary off Kyle Jamieson. IND 204-5 (40.5)
Just when it looked like Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul would stay till the end, Michael Bracewell breaks the stand with a caught and bowled dismissal of Jadeja. He goes for 27. IND 191-5 (38.1)
The partnership between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja has crossed the 60-run mark as India inch towards 200. While Rahul entered the 40s, Jadeja is playing the second fiddle at 24. IND 184-4 (37.2)
The departure of Virat Kohli has stemmed the run flow as KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are taking taking in the middle. Had Kohli scored a fifty today, he would have become the first Indian to score six consecutive fifties in ODIs. IND 160-4 (34)
OUTTT!!!! Pindrop silence in the stadium as Virat Kohli chops onto his stumps off a Kristian Clarke delivery. The delivery angles into Kohli and the Indian tries to manufacture a shot through point. Kohli departs for 23. From being at 99/1, India have slipped to 118/4 in no time. To add more to that, India have not been able to score a boundary in the last seven overs. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul are in the middle for India. IND 138/4 (29)
Another wicket goes down for India as Shreyas Iyer is caught by Michael Bracewell. Iyer goes hard on the drive but finds Bracewell at mid off. He scored just eight runs. KL Rahul joins Virat Kohli in the middle. IND 118/3 (23)
OUTTT!!! Two quick wickets for India in quick successions. First, it was Kristian Clarke who got rid of Rohit Sharma for 24. Now, Kyle Jamieson gets the better of captain Shubman Gill for 56. Virat Kohli is currently at the crease with Shreyas Iyer likely to come out.IND 99/2 (16.5)
The Indian openers have started just the same way they had in the first ODI. Contonuing his subline form, Shubman Gill is nearing his fifty while Rohit Sharma is taking in the middle. IND 70-0 (12)
Here we go. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have walked out to bat for India. Kyle Jamieson will open the attack for New Zealand. Maiden over to start with for Jamieson. IND 0/0 (1)
Just like Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli is also on the verge of breaking a massive record. The former Indian captain is currently on level with Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane for five consecutive ODI fifties. A half-century today will make Kohli the first Indian batter with six fifty plus scores. Virat's score in last five ODIs read 74 not out, 135, 102, 65 not out and 93.
Shreyas Iyer is on a verge of major record today. The right hander, (2966 in 68 innings) just needs 34 runs to become the fastest Indian to reach 3000 runs in ODIs. The record is being held by Shikhar Dhawan who reached the milestone in 72 innings. Iyer made a comeback in the last ODI after a long injury gap.
"We’re going to bowl first. It looks like a really good surface, and hopefully the dew comes into play later in the evening, which should make things a bit nicer for batting under lights. The last game was a tight one and I was proud of how the boys fought right till the end. We’ve made just the one change - Jaden Lennox comes in to make his debut."
“We would actually have preferred to bat first, based on the last few games here. Even yesterday there wasn’t much dew, and the players feel the surface tends to slow down as the innings goes on, so batting first looked the better option. Personally, I felt really good in the last game - the rhythm and fluency were there, and it’s always nice to contribute. Hopefully I can build on that and produce a big one today. Washington is out of the series, so Nitish comes in for him.”
Michaell Bracewell and Shubman Gill are out for the toss. New Zealand have won the toss and opted to bowl. Both the teams have made one change each. Debutant Jayden Lennox replaces Adithya Ashok for the Kiwis. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy replaces injured Washington Sundar.
The good news for India is the form of Virat Kohli. Starting from the final match in Australia, Kohli has hit seven consecutive List A fifties including five for India. Along with Kohli, the forms of captain Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer on return have also given a sigh of relief for the Indian team. Both Gill and Iyer played their first ODIs after a long gap. While Gill returned after his neck injury against South Africa in the first Test, Iyer had suffered a rib cage injury in Australia that sidelined him for good three months.
After Rishabh Pant, India have been dealt with another injury blow as Washington Sundar was ruled out of the remainder of the series. Delhi's Ayush Badoni has been called as a replacement. But it is unlikely, Badoni will get his maiden ODI cap.
In the first ODI, half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls and Devon Conway helped the Kiwis to 300. In reply, a 93 from Virat Kohli and fifties from Shubman Gill and a 49 from KL Rahul helped India chase down the target with four wickets in hand.
