India vs New Zealand Highlights, World Cup 2023: India has ascended to the top of the points table, with a fifth win in a row. The team successfully chased down the target of 278 runs in Dharamshala, with former skipper Virat Kohli starring with a 95-run knock.

A glimmer of hope had emerged for the Kiwis between 33rd and 34th over. KL Rahul was dismissed by Mitchell Santner, breaking his 50-run partnership with Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav was run out subsequently, at a score of only 2 runs. After a brief fumble, however, India regained its dominance in the match with a 68-run partnership between Jadeja and Kohli.

Earlier, India responded with aggressive batting as they came out to chase the target of 274 runs. Rohit Sharma (46) and Shubhman Gill set the tone for the run chase, with a 71-run opening stand. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the duo who scripted a successful run chase against Australia, are in the middle.

In the first innings, Daryl Mitchell hit a century to guide New Zealand to 273 all out against India in Sunday's top-of-the-table World Cup clash between two unbeaten teams. New Zealand had lost their openers early after being invited to bat first in the Himalayan hill town of Dharamsala but Mitchell (130) and Rachin Ravindra (75) put on 159 to get the innings back on track.

The stand was the highest between the two teams at a World Cup for any wicket as the pair surpassed the previous best of 136 by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in 1987.

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami helped India pull things back in the final 10 overs as he returned figures of 5-54 in his first appearance at the tournament.

After winning the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma decided to field first in the 21st match between India and New Zealand at ICC Men's World Cup 2023 in the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on 22 October.

Batting first, New Zealand managed to score 273 runs after losing all their wickets, all thanks to Mohd Shami's 5-wickets haul, 2 wickets by Kuldeep Yadav, and one each by Bumrah and Siraj. India need 274 runs to wins the match.

Despite a slow start and losing early wickets, New Zealand's Rachin (75) and Mitchell (130) built a good partnership. However, post 200 runs, they kept losing wickets and by the end of 50 overs, they lost all their wickets.

A five-wicket haul for the returning Mohammed Shami and with this, he became the first Indian to do so twice at ODI World Cups.

India had a rare ordinary day in the field and were guilty of dropping three catches. Kuldeep Yadav (2/73) was the most expensive bowler but got the important wickets of Tom Lathan and Glenn Phillips.

Hosts India, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, have been in excellent form at this year's tournament, dominating all their opponents to record impressive victories so far. India have been arguably the most composed side at this year's ICC World Cup, with both the batting and bowling units getting the job done for the Men in Blue.

New Zealand, on the other hand, started their campaign with a resounding victory over England in the tournament opener and have only gone from strength to strength since. Despite the absence of their skipper and arguably their most reliable middle-order batsman - Kane Williamson - the Kiwis have still managed to win all their matches convincingly.

In recent years, the rivalry between the two teams has been growing, with New Zealand knocking India out of the 2019 World Cup with a heartbreaking semi-final defeat and then beating them again to win the inaugural World Test Championship.

Where are India and New Zealand placed on the points table?

While India and New Zealand have both been victorious in 4 encounters so far and hold 8 points, the Kiwis top the ICC World Cup points table due to a superior net run rate of + 1.923 compared to + 1.659 for India. However, despite the lower net run rate if India can manage to win the key clash in Dharamshala, they will be the top side on the points table.
