11:54 AM IST The surface was dry underneath and had a two-paced nature, with batters also having to tackle the inconsistent bounce. Having opted to bowl first, the Renegades’ bowlers were quick to identify the troublesome lengths on this pitch and made a conscious effort to prevent the Perth batters from hitting straight down the ground. Whoever came into the attack kept nagging away relentlessly at that 6-8 metre length. The Perth Scorchers could not string together partnerships of any substance, with Aaron Hardie’s 44 the highest score for the home side. Gurinder Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers for the Melbourne Renegades, finishing with excellent figures of 4 for 28 from his four overs.
11:51 AM IST Oliver Peake is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his unbeaten, match-winning knock. He starts off by saying that he struggled throughout his innings but managed to pull it off in the end. He describes the track as tricky to bat on, but feels he was fortunate to find gaps and score boundaries. Shares that when Will Sutherland took them over the line the other day, he should have been there at the end as well and learning from that, he tried to take the game deep today. On the catch incident involving Ashton Turner, he says that there is not much for him to comment and it is upto the adjudicators.
11:48 AM IST The Melbourne Renegades were in danger of making the road ahead much tougher had they lost tonight, but this win keeps them firmly in the mix, while the Perth Scorchers see their three-game winning streak come to an end. Up next in the 2025/26 Big Bash League, we head to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday, 8th January, where the Melbourne Stars will take on the Sydney Sixers. The match will get underway at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT), but as always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
11:43 AM IST Time for the presentation ceremony...
11:40 AM IST Will Sutherland and Oliver Peake came together and decided to take the Power Surge to break the back of the chase, and it was during that phase that a massive moment unfolded. Ashton Turner appeared to have taken the catch of Peake, but he grassed the ball while tumbling on the ground, and Oliver stayed on. Sutherland couldn’t quite repeat the heroics from the Melbourne Derby, but Peake took it upon himself to carry the team over the line. The Perth Scorchers were not well-equipped at the death and dearly missed Joel Paris, who went off the field after his two overs due to a groin issue.
11:39 AM IST With 128 runs to get, Josh Brown threw his bat around early and found a few boundaries before his stay was cut short. Mohammad Rizwan and Tim Seifert then built on that start and ticked along nicely. All it took, though, was a mix-up for the Perth Scorchers to barge through that opening. The required run rate was under six while Rizwan and Seifert were together, but after the run-out, it began to climb steadily, with wickets falling in the process.
