NEW DELHI : Conspicuous by its absence was the name of former India captain MS Dhoni among the list of 27 centrally contracted players released by BCCI on Thursday.

MS Dhoni has only played ODI and T20 cricket for India since December 2014 when he announced his retirement from Test cricket after the Boxing day Test against Australia.

Some of the big gainers in this year’s list are opening batsmen KL Rahul and Mayank Agrawal, while the former has jumped from Grade B to Grade A the latter entered the list and going straight away to Grade B.

Only three players, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are in the A+ category, while there are 11 in Grade A, five in Grade B and eight in Grade C.

The contracts are from October 2019 to September 2020 and the retainer for players in A+ category in 7 crore, 5 crore for players in Category A and 3 crore and 1 crore for players in Category B and A.

Some of the players who lost their central contracts were Dinesh Karthik, Khaleel Ahmed and Ambati Rayudu.
