Nita Ambani embraces Harmanpreet Kaur after India fulfill World Cup dream; ‘At the stroke of midnight, our girls have…’

Founder-Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani was present at the DY Patil Stadium to witness history as Indian women lifted their first-ever ICC World Cup after beating South Africa in the final in Navi Mumbai.

Nita Ambani couldn't hide her joy as she held on Harmanpreet Kaur tightly and spoke at length after India's 52-run win over South Africa in the final of the Women's World Cup 2025, thus lifting their maiden ICC silverware at the stroke of midnight at the DY Patil Stadium.

In a video shared by ANI, Ambani, in a white shirt and jeans, spoke at length with Harmanpreet about the game. The Indian captain, gestured a few moments from the match with her hands. Earlier, Ambani was seen at the VIP stand with Rohit Sharma, waving the Indian flag after the win.

Following the win, Ambani stated, “At the stroke of midnight, our girls have won the first ever ICC World Championship. I think you have made the whole nation swell with pride, the way you have played with courage, conviction and confidence. We are all so proud of you and I want to say thank you, thank you, dhanyavad and Jai Hind.”

Notably, Harmanpreet is also the captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Women's Premier League, which Ambani owns. Among the other dignitaries present at the stadium were former India cricketers Diana Edulji, Shantha Rangaswamy, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and others.

Former Indian women cricketers Jhulan Goswami, Reema Malhotra, Jhulan Goswami, Anjum Chopra and Mithali Raj were able to be a part of the celebrations as they were working with the broadcast team.

Harmanpreet Kaur expresses immense pride

After the win, Harmanpreet expressed immense pride and stated that this win would bring in a significant change in women's cricket in the country. The 36-year-old stated that the team have been performing well over few years but couldn't win when it mattered the most.

She believed that this World Cup win will have a lasting impact on women's cricket in India, inspiring young girls and bring more attention to the female sport. “Yes, definitely,” she said immediately.

"We have been talking about this for many years -- we've been playing good cricket, but we had to win one big tournament. Without that, we couldn't talk about change. At the end of the day, fans and the audience want to see their favourite team win.

"It's not that we weren't playing good cricket, but we were waiting badly for this moment, and today we got a chance to live it. I don't know how to express it, but I'm so happy and so proud of this team. Kaur on this victory will have the same impact on women's cricket?" she concluded.
