Shubman Gill knocks MI out of IPL 2023; Sachin Tendulkar gives him a masterclass. Watch video
Gujarat Titans opening batter Shubman Gill had scored his third century of this IPL season, leading his team to a comfortable 62 run win over Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill was locked in an intense conversation with the former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar during the match against Mumbai Indians. Sachin congratulated the young Indian batter after his third century in just 4 matches. While sitting in the dugout, Sachin could be seen giving some tips to the GT batter.
Speaking at the post-match press presentation, Gill said, "I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL"
Elaborating his approach in the IPL, the young Indian batter said, "For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That's when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well. Not a conscious decision, you keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important.
2023 has been a special year for Shubman Gill with many record breaking innings. Gill scored his first T20 international century in January this year. He followed that up with a century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February. He also joined the elite list of players to score a double century in ODIs.
Shubman Gill also currently holds the Orange Cap for the most number of runs. On the back of his three centuries, Gill has managed to score 851 runs at an average of 60.78 and a strike rate of 156.43. He is also only the third-highest run-scorer in IPL history and only the second Indian opener after Virat Kohli to cross the 800-run mark in a single IPL season.
