Steve Smith has toppled Virat Kohli to become number one Test batsman in the world.
Steve Smith, who played his first Test after a 12 month hiatus because of a ban and scored two centuries, has 904 points, compared to Kohli who has 903 points. Smith missed the third Test with concussion and Marnus Labuschagne became the first substitute to bat because of concussion.
Virat Kohli, by his own high standards, had a poor Test series against West Indies, scoring 136 runs in four innings at an average of 34 and he will be hoping to do better in India’s next Test assignment.
As far as bowlers are concerned, Jasprit Bumrah is now third in the rankings thanks to his superb series against the Windies where he picked up two five wicket hauls in two Tests, including a hat-trick in the second Test at Jamaica. It’s a remarkable rise for Bumrah who was ranked 85 when he made his debut in January of 2018.
Ben Stokes is second on the list of all-rounders after his classy showing in Leeds and Ravindra Jadeja is fourth on the list. The list is headed by Windies captain Jason Holder who would be disappointed by his team’s performance against India.
