Virat Kohli one Test win away from equalling MS Dhoni’s captaincy record

  • Should India win the First Test against West Indies in Antigua, Kohli would equal the record of former India captain MS Dhoni
  • Dhoni led India to 27 Test win in 60 matches while Kohli currently has 26 wins under his belt in 46 Tests

Virat Kohli is just one win away from becoming India’s joint most successful captain in Test cricket.

Should India win the First Test against West Indies in Antigua, Kohli would equal the record of former India captain MS Dhoni.

Dhoni led India to 27 Test win in 60 matches while Kohli currently has 26 wins under his belt in 46 Tests.

Since Kohli was announced as the permanent captain of India Test team in 2015 India have won to win some memorable Test matches in both India and abroad. Earlier this year India won their maiden Test series in Australia, beating the hosts 2-1 in their own backyard.

Should India win both matches against the Windies, Kohli will go to the top of the ladder with 28 wins from 48 matches. Third on the list for most wins as India captain is Sourav Ganguly who has 21 wins while Mohammad Azharuddin has 14 wins.

The record for most wins in International cricket belongs to Graeme Smith, who has 53 wins, while Ricky Ponting has 48.

India are currently ranked number one in lCC rankings with 113 points ahead of New Zealand who have 111.

Test series against West Indies will be India's first since their tour to Australia which began in December last year.
