Virat Kohli brought back memories of his captaincy days when he convinced current skipper Rohit Sharma for a successful ploy against Steve Smith on the fifth and final day of the ongoing third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The incident took place on the 1th over of Australia's second innings. With Australia reeling at 28/4 after 10 overs, Mohammed Siraj was handed the ball replacing Akash Deep. In the video that has gone viral on social media, Siraj wanted to bowl over the wicket, which Rohit wasn't very convinced off.

Kohli, who was nearly, backed Siraj's decision of bowling over the wicket with Steve Smith and Travis Head at the crease at that time. “Over se wo pair kholne ke liye easy ho jaega usko (it will be easy for him to open his leg if bowled over the wicket),” Rohit put forth his reason.

To which Kohli replied, “Nehi nehi. Over se agar ye over scrambled wala dalega middle stump se, toh out hone ka chances hae. sahi keh raha hae wo. Square upar de de, but stump pe daal ne de (No no. If he bowls this over from over the wicket with a scrambled seam in the middle stump, there are high chances of getting him out. Bring the square leg (fielder) up and let him bowl stump to stump).”

Although it wasn't sure whom the ploy was against, but Siraj delivered instantly, getting rid of Smith on the final ball of the over. Siraj bowled a good length delivery that was going down the leg side. Smith, looking to guide the all towards fine leg, got an edge down the leg side with Rishabh Pant making no mistake behind the stumps.

India keep WTC final chances alive

Meanwhile, the rain-interrupted Gabba Test ended in a draw, leaving the series tied 1-1 going into the penultimate Test in Melbourne. India were 8/0 with Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 not out) and KL Rahul (4 not out) at the crease in their chase of 275 when bad light and rain forced an early Tea.

With the forecast looking scarry for the rest of the day, the umpires along with both the captains decided not to take the match any further, thus settling for a draw. Earlier, Australia made a spirited declaration at 89/7 in their second innings with more than one session to go.

India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah led the show with 3/18 in his six overs, aided well by Mohammed Siraj (2/35) and Akash Deep (2/28). The third Test had multiple rain interruption across the five days.

Earlier, India were all out for 260 in response to Australia's 445. Resuming the day at 252/9, India added eight runs in 24 balls. Australia gained a 185-run first innings lead after Akash Deep was stumped off Travis Head's bowling in the 79th over.
