FC Barcelona finally got off the mark in their La Liga campaign after recording a thumping 5-2 win over Real Betis on Sunday.
Antoine Griezmann got a brace on his home debut while Charles Perez, Jordi Alba and Arturo Vidal all got on the scoresheet. That came after the Andalucían side had taken the lead through summer signing Nabil Fekir.
Following the win FC Barcelona tweeted a picture a Junior Firpo holding up his right hand with all five fingers showing. Firpo was signed by La Blaugrana from Real Betis and came on as a second half substitute. The tweet read ‘Junior knows’
Some Real Betis fans could have taken offence to the picture, which could have been construed as mocking Betis for five goals conceded.
Now the Catalan club has come out and issued an apology to all Betis fans for any offence caused with the tweet.
This is what the tweet from the five time European Champions read,
@FCBarcelona wish to sincerely apologise for any offence caused to Real Betis and their supporters regarding a tweet sent out on Sunday evening. No disrespect was intended, but we were wrong to publish it on a night that was very special for Junior.
Thanks to their first win of the season Barcelona are now ninth in the fledgling La Liga season. Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are the only two teams who have both their matches are are on six points, while Real Madrid are on 4 points.
Barca next take on Osasuna on Saturday.
