Sanjeev Stalin, who was part of the India U-17 World Cup squad in 2017, has signed for Portuguese top flight club CD Aves.

Even though the India U-17 team failed to win even a single game in the tournament Stalin shone with his bright performances. He also got an assist via a corner for the one and only goal that India scored during the competition in a 2-1 defeat to Colombia in Delhi.

The 19-year old has been training with the Portuguese side for the last four months and has not put pen to paper on a two-year deal. The defender took to social networking site Instagram to confirm his move.

Stalin will initially go into the CD Aves’ development teams and should he impress in the underage tournaments he could get a chance to show his worth for the club in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

CD Aves are currently bottom of the league with just 12 points from their 20 league matches and are four points adrift of Pacos de Ferrira, who currently occupy the last safe spot in the league.

Stalin has played 32 times for the India U-17 team scoring thrice; the Bengaluru born has also played four times for the India U-20 team since 2017. Stalin also played for Indian Arrows in the I-League making 28 appearances for the team in two seasons.
