The Green Bay Packers have secured wide receiver Christian Watson with a four-year, $110.5 million extension that includes a $31 million signing bonus. This comes just weeks after the Packers extended Jayden Reed to a three-year, $50.25 million deal on April 24. The team is clearly focused on keeping its top pass catchers in Green Bay to support quarterback Jordan Love.

Christian Watson, 27, had signed a one-year, $11 million contract last September while recovering from a torn ACL late in the 2024 season. He had $5.75 million remaining on that deal.

Contract value matches market benchmarks

The extension averages $27.6 million per year. This is very close to the $27.3 million franchise tag number for Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens. The new contract provides Christian Watson with financial stability and gives the Green Bay Packerspredictability in their salary cap planning for the position.

Christian Watson had a strong finish to last season. He caught 35 passes for 611 yards and six touchdowns in the final 10 games. From Weeks 8 to 18, he led the NFL in yards per catch with an average of 17.5. Seventeen of his 35 catches went for 16 or more yards, ranking third among players with at least 30 catches.

Over four seasons with the Packers, he has 133 catches for 2,264 yards and 20 touchdowns. His ability to make explosive plays has been valuable to the offense.

Departures of Doubs and Wicks Open Doors for Others

The extensions for Watson and Reed came after Romeo Doubs left for the New England Patriots in free agency and the team traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Watson commented on the changes this week at OTAs.

"It was definitely tough to see those guys go because they're great friends of mine, great teammates," Watson said this week during Packers OTAs. “This thing always keeps on moving. I definitely think they'll be a lot more opportunities for the guys who are out there this year, myself included. Just got to embrace that and continue to make plays when our numbers are called.”

Watson, Reed, and 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden are set to be the top three receivers for the Packers this season.

With Watson and Reed now under long-term contracts, the Packers have added stability to their receiving group. The focus now shifts to how this young core performs together when training camp opens and throughout the upcoming season.
