Mithun Manhas, a former Delhi cricketer, is on the verge of becoming the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), succeeding Roger Binny. Notably, Binny stepped down due to the board’s 70-year age cap for office-bearers.
Selected to be in contention during a key meeting in Delhi, Manhas’s rise to the top post marks a significant moment for Indian cricket, blending his rich playing experience with administrative skills. As the BCCI gears up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, 2025, all eyes will be on Manhas as he steps into his next chapter of the cricket career.
Born on October 12, 1979, in Jammu, Mithun Manhas carved out an 18-year career as a dependable middle-order batsman and occasional off-spinner.
He played 157 first-class matches, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of 39.89, with 27 centuries and a highest score of 145 not out.
As Delhi’s Ranji Trophy captain, he secured multiple titles. Manhas also contributed to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as support staff for the Gujarat Titans and currently serves as an administrator for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Mithun Manhas’ selection over high-profile candidates like Harbhajan Singh and Raghuram Bhatt made him a standout. His role as North Zone convener for the Duleep Trophy showcased his organizational prowess, aligning with the BCCI’s post-2019 constitutional push to prioritize former players in leadership.
The upcoming AGM will see continuity alongside change. Devajit Saikia is expected to stay as secretary, while Rajeev Shukla will likely retain his vice-president role after five years. Raghuram Bhatt is the frontrunner for treasurer, with Prabhtej Singh Bhatia from Chhattisgarh Cricket Sangh tipped for joint secretary.
Arun Dhumal’s continuation as IPL chairman awaits legal clarity due to his prior three-year treasurer stint, which may trigger a cooling-off period. The Apex Council and IPL Governing Council elections are also on the horizon, with Jaydev Shah, a 120-match first-class veteran from Saurashtra, likely to join the Apex Council.
The nominations were closed on September 12, and withdrawals are permitted until September 23. The September 28 AGM in Mumbai is set to formalize and confirm all appointments.
