E-commerce giant Amazon today launched the Amazon Marketplace Appstore in India. Unlike most app stores, this one is meant for sellers on the company’s e-commerce platform. It brings apps and services from third parties, which help sellers manage various aspects of selling goods via Amazon.
According to the company, the platform has apps that take care of Accounting and Tax Remittance activities, e-commerce solution connectors, inventory and order management and more. Needless to say, this isn’t a store that is meant for regular consumers.
Like products on the company’s e-commerce platform, the Marketplace Appstore also has a rating system. It is also not available to everyone and has to be accessed through the Amazon Seller Central platform, which is meant specifically for those who use the e-commerce platform to sell goods.
Further, the company says the Marketplace AppStore has “nearly 100 apps from across the world" on it. In addition, launching it in India makes it possible for Indian developers to put their apps on the platform as well.
“The applications featured on the Amazon Marketplace Appstore have been verified and are completely reliable, and we believe that this will help both sellers and developers scale their businesses," said Gopal Pillai, Vice President, Seller Services, Amazon India.
It’s worth noting that Marketplace is not the same thing as the Amazon Seller app available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store right now. The latter is meant for sellers to manage and track goods on the platform, and run their business. The Marketplace Appstore instead offers apps and services that are meant to enhance a seller’s business on Amazon.
