Several Facebook and Instagram users on Sunday reported disruption of services. The issue was first reported at around 7:00 pm IST and the outage affected users from Asia, US and Canada. Outage tracker Downdetector shows complaints peaked at around 8:00 pm and most users reported issues with updating the newsfeed on Instagram, while total blackout was the most commonly reported issue with Facebook.

Facebook has suffered several major outages this year, the most recent being the one on 4 July. Facebook said it was due to a routine maintenance operation that accidentally triggered a bug that made it difficult for users to upload or send photos and videos.
Another massive worldwide outage took place on 13 March lasting as long as 24 hours that. Facebook blamed this on a "server configuration change." An estimated 2.7 billion people were affected during this outage with its core social network, Instagram and messaging applications.
