- Here is a step-by-step guide on how to reset an invite link
Recently, WhatsApp faced a huge security crisis when several news portals reported that over 4,000 links inviting people to join private groups had been indexed on Google, suggesting a massive data breach and enabled anyone to join these groups.
The Facebook-owned app has reportedly resolved the issue and Google has de-listed the private group invite links from its search engine. But what if you are not really convinced and are worried about random people getting added to your personal groups?
First things first, it is always better to not send group invites via links and rather, add members through phone numbers. It is always a safer and much secure way to add members on any new formed and existing group. However, if you have already created a link or links earlier and are now worried, there is a way to avoid any data or privacy breach - by resetting the link.
To reset an invitation link, go to the particular WhatsApp group and tap in the group name. Under the Group Info settings, you would find the option "Invite to Group via Link" and there you are will get the option to "Reset Link". Tap on it and it will reset the link, giving you a fresh one and in such a way prevent the use of the previous link to join the link.
Once you reset the link, WhatsApp will make the old link invalid and people with the older link won’t be able to add themselves to the group by clicking on it.
However, as already mentioned, adding a group by avoiding the Invite link option and adapting the manual way of saving the number and adding members via thier phone numbers is a far more secure option.
To add a new member to a WhatsApp group, simply save the person's number on your phone's contact list, open the group you want to add the person in and press the group's name to get into the group info. In that, you will find a plus (+) sign with Add Participants written. Once you tap on it, choose the contact you want to add provided the contact is using WhatsApp on that particular number to be able to participate in the group.
