Meta-owned WhatsApp is one of the most popular social messaging apps, used by billions of users worldwide. The app offers end-to-end-encryption privacy feature and is smooth to use without any major hiccups. But a latest bug is resulting in the WhatsApp app crashing on Android.

This new WhatsApp bug crashes the app as soon as one opens an individual or group chat containing a simple yet problematic link - Usually, the link would open the settings page of the app. But currently it is leading to app crashes on Android devices.

As per a report by Android Authority, Android version of WhatsApp is affected by the bug. But it is likely that other versions are impacted too.

Although the bug was first reported by Twitter user @pandyaMayur11, it soon managed to begin a topic of discussion on the microblogging app with multiple users pointing at the bug.

According to a user - @BruteBee, the bug affects Whatsapp Business version In addition, the user confirmed that the bug will also crash the app when one attempts to share this url on WhatsApp status.

So, what is the fix for this WhatsApp bug?

The fix is as simple as the link itself. If your WhatsApp Android app has crashed due to the bug, you are advised to login to WhatsApp Web. Here, delete the problematic message or chat from your chat history.

A latest tweet from @BruteBee suggests that WhatsApp has fixed the bug.

We put the glitch to test to find out if the bug is still affecting Android users. For most, the bug did not result in app crash, hinting that the fix released by WhatsApp has worked. A few still seem to be impacted by the bug. It is advisable to them to WhatsApp Android users to update their app from Google Play Store.
