WhatsApp has been testing beta versions of the dark mode feature on both Android and iOS smartphones for quite some time now. Although these features are currently not available for users in a stable update and the popular social messaging app has not officially announced any update, chances are they might roll out globally soon.

To recall, the WhatsApp Dark mode feature has been in the news for more than a year now. Several reports, tweaks and blogs have been giving repeated updates as and when the social messaging app releases even a tiny feature remotely related to the dark theme, but these have always remained unstable and just build up on the hype of inching closer to the theme, until the beginning of this year.

In January, WABetaInfo, a blog that tracks WhatsApp developments stated that the social messaging app was finally releasing a more stable release of the beta version for its users. Available in Android Beta version, you can use the feature right now. All you need to do is download the latest 2.20.13 Android Beta version of the app from its APK version. You can download the APK version by clicking on this link. For iOS, you need to have WhatsApp update version 2.20.30 via its Test Program.

Moreover, with every beta roll out, the app is gradually getting closer to the stable release globally, but it is yet to release it. The latest report from the blog spotted that the app has added a total of 27 solid colour options for its Android beta version. While the dark colour for the theme will help conserve the battery on OLED screen phones, the other solid colours will not perform any such task and may just prove to be more soothing to the eyes than the current white theme.

How to enable WhatsApp dark mode feature on Android:

Once you have downloaded the latest WhatsApp for Android Beta, here are the steps to enable the dark mode feature:

    -Open WhatsApp app

    -Go to Settings option

    -Tap on Chats

    -In Chats, tap on Display

-After tapping on Display, you will be able to see Theme

-Choose Dark Theme to enable it

The new Theme Option under Chats has more themes as well. There are options for Light Theme and Set By Battery Saver option also. Apart from this, there is also the System Default option, that is available for smartphones using the latest Android 10 OS and have enabled Dark mode for their phone, system-wise. However, this option is available only for phones running Android 10.

Those running Android 9 OS or lower, there is no reason to get disheartened as all you need to do it to manually set the theme. The Dark Theme is already discussed. Let's look at the other themes available:

Light theme: it’s the usual white theme that you have always used in these years.

Set by Battery Saver: Available on Android 9 and lower OS versions, the setting allows to automatically switch to light/dark theme, in according to your Battery Saver settings.

How to activate WhatsApp Dark Mode feature on iOS:

Once you have updated WhatsApp beta to version 2.20.30.25 using TestFlight, simply restart the phone and you will see a dark WhatsApp splash screen.

In addition to this, according to a fresh report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is also working to bring the dark theme for its web and desktop platforms.

The blog noticed a few significant changes with regard to the dark interface on the desktop app such as the dark theme itself, the emojis, stickers and much more.

But if you are impatient and want a dark theme-like mode on your WhatsApp web right away, there is a way to work around your wishes. In an earlier article, we shared how you can enable dark theme on the desktop version of WhatsApp right away by simply downloading a Chrome extension and follow the instructions shared here.

Recently, WhatsApp was under scanner for one of its major flaws where group chats invite links got indexed by Google. However, WhatsApp seems to have fixed the bug and also said to have removed the invite links from Google search results.
