WhatsApp will end its support for all Windows Phone operating systems after 31 December, 2019.

Your explanations for still using a Windows Phone device in 2019 are narrowing down as the most popular instant messaging platform in the world, WhatsApp, will soon be ending its support for these devices.

WhatsApp in a blog post said that it would be ending its support for all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019. This basically means that Windows Phone users would no longer be able to use WhatsApp in 2020.

WhatsApp will release it last and final update for the platform in June this year.

"Following Microsoft's recent decision to end support for Windows Mobile devices in December, WhatsApp will release its final update for Windows phones in June. WhatsApp will continue working on Windows phones through the end of the year," a WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement to Gadgets 360.

In the blog, WhatsApp also mentioned that it would be ending support for Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020 and iPhone iOS 7 and older after February 1, 2020.

The Facebook-owned platform had earlier ended support for Nokia Symbian S60 in June 2017, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 in December 2017 and Nokia Symbian S40 in December 2018.

However, if you are a hardcore Windows fan, there still might be hope. WABetaInfo in a tweet on Tuesday said that WhatsApp is working on a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app. The app would effectively allow the app to be used on recent versions of Windows Phone and Windows Desktop platforms.

There's no word on when the app would be released and whether it would effectively stop being compatible with Windows Phone platform at the end of support announcement.
