Apple launched three new iPhones this year—the Apple iPhone 11 at ₹64,990 (64GB), iPhone 11 Pro at ₹99,900 (64GB) and iPhone 11 Pro Max at ₹1,09,900 (64GB).

  • All the new iPhones will be available in India from September 27
  • The iPhone 11 is an update to last year’s iPhone XR, while the 11 Pro and Pro Max are updates to the XS and XS Max

The new iPhone 11 will be sold in India at a starting price of 64,900. The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, on the other hand, will start at 99,900 and 1,09,900 respectively. The devices were announced by Apple at its event held in Cupertino, California a few hours ago.

While the new prices maintain Apple’s premium pricing for its products, what’s worth noting is that the launch price for the iPhone 11 is lower than that of the iPhone XR (which was launched at 76,900). This is unusual coming from Apple, since the company usually retains its pricing from yesteryears or raises them incrementally. The iPhone 11 is an update to the iPhone XR, while the 11 Pro and Pro Max are updates to the iPhone XS and XS Max.

“I think they realized that XR was pricey as the price adjustments in Q2 led to a surge in sales for iPhone XR," said Tarun Pathak, Associate Director, Counterpoint Research. “Even in a price sensitive market like India , the 56k pricing made it the best selling iPhone for Apple in Q2," he added. The prices of the iPhone XR had eventually settled at 56,900 after the initial launch price of 76,900.

“India is a time lapse market for Apple," said Faisal Kawoosa, founder of techARC. Kawoosa says while the prices of the iPhone 11 will likely not be dropped by Apple during the Diwali buying season, you could expect its prices to trickle downwards over time, just like the iPhone XR’s did.

On the other hand, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max should sit atop Apple’s portfolio here. The two phones seem to be aimed at creators too, who have often taken to iPhones to make movies, short films, music videos and more. In fact, Mumbai-based film studies institute, Whistling Woods, recently announced a whole film-making course around iPhone film-making.

Apple also announced the Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade services, which offer video and game streaming services to users, respectively. Both those services will be priced at 99 each in India and will be available on the new iPhones. Apple TV+ will also be available on devices like the Amazon Fire TV and some other devices in future.
