Expect 3 smartphone launches this week: Redmi Note 7S, Honor 20, Oppo K3

  • The Redmi Note 7S will launch today with minor improvements over the Redmi Note 7 Pro including a dedicated night mode, Gorilla Glass back
  • The Honor 20 series would be launched in London on May 23. Expect quad cameras, Kirin 980 chipset, LCD display with circular cutout notch

May has been the month of smartphone launches. OnePlus, Realme, Redmi, Motorola and Asus launched flagships, while Google took the covers off the more affordable variants of its flagship smartphone. While the last week kicked off with the launch of OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, this week will see Xiaomi launch a new variant of the Redmi Note 7. After this, Honor will launch the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro flagship series on Tuesday, following which Oppo K3 would be launched. Here's what we can expect from the smartphones.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S (May 20)

Xiaomi will take the wraps off the Redmi Note 7S today in India. Xiaomi has confirmed it has tied up with Flipkart for the sales of the Note 7S. The Redmi Note 7S comes with the same 48MP camera that we saw in the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the Redmi Note 7S will have a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on its back and will come in a red colour option. We can also expect a night mode for its camera.

Honor 20 series (May 21)

The Honor 20 series would be unveiled on May 21 at an event in London. We can expect the Huawei sub brand to launch the Honor 20 and the Honor 20 Pro. According to a German website WinFuture, the phones would be powered by Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset paired with at least 6GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. At the back, both smartphones are expected to have four sensors, but with a few differences. Both smartphones are expected to pack 48MP primary camera, 16MP super-wide-angle camera, and 2MP macro cameras. However, the Honor 20 Pro's fourth sensor might be an 8MP telephoto camera, while the Honor 20 will pack a 2MP depth sensor instead. The display of the Honor 20 series would sport a circular cutout for the front facing camera, much like the View 20 Pro. The new smartphones would replace the current flagship Honor 10.

Oppo K3 (May 23)

The Oppo K3 will launch in China on May 23. Using unconventional mathematical techniques, Oppo has made the K3 a direct successor to the Oppo K1. It is expected to pack an in-display fingerprint sensor. We can also expect a Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with up to 8GB of RAM. A China Telecom listing had tipped dual rear cameras comprising a 16MP+2MP configuration. For selfies, the K3 will feature a 16MP pop-up camera. Other specifications mentioned in the China Telecom listing include up to 8GB of RAM and support for VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge fast charging.
