Viewsonic X10-4K: Expensive, but brings great picture quality

The Viewsonic X10-4K is one such option, and it makes sense for people with lakhs to spare and no room for a 100-inch television.

NEW DELHI : The proliferation of video streaming and cheaper 4K TVs could really be the last nail in the coffin for projectors. However, companies aren’t giving up on these devices just yet. If you want a 100-inch screen at home, a short-throw projector is one of your best options.

The Viewsonic X10-4K is one such option, and it makes sense for people with lakhs to spare and no room for a 100-inch television. Or perhaps you’re planning to build a screening room at home. Either way, the X10-4K makes a lot of sense.

You could also connect a Fire TV Stick to this device or deliver other HDMI or USB inputs, including USB Type C.

It looks like an oversized picnic box, with a handle to carry it around. It’s not particularly portable, in the sense that it won’t fit inside a bag.

However, you could carry it around if you really need to. The projector delivers good colours, though black levels are a tad weak, meaning details in shades just above black will be tough to distinguish. That said, skin tones and other colours look vibrant enough to impress even the most picky movie viewer.

The device also deals with motion quite well, which means sports content will look great and play without any blurs. Character movements in movies are smoother than they should be, but not alarmingly unnatural. The Harman Kardon speakers built inside make it a stand-alone device that does not require any external audio connections.

Overall, the only real problem with the X10-4K is that it’s really expensive.

However, if you can afford this projector, it will get you an impressive large screen approximately 3ft away from the wall.

PROS

■ Excellent picture quality

■ Punchy and detail-rich speakers

■ Plenty of input options

CONS

■ Expensive

■ Hefty build for a portable device

■ App support isn’t great
