Apple's AirTag has gained significant recognition due to its unforeseen versatility. Recently, it assisted a family in catching thieves who were stealing valuable items from their deceased relative's burial site.

Click2houston, a local news publication, reports that in Houston, Texas, numerous families are facing distress as a result of persistent grave robberies. These thieves are targeting graves and making off with valuable items like vases by unearthing the burial sites. Brazoria County has particularly been affected, with hundreds of gravesites falling victim to theft, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars' worth of bronze vases.

In an attempt to apprehend the criminals involved in a series of grave robberies, a family took advantage of technology by discreetly inserting an AirTag inside a vase. Tony Velazquez, who spoke to the publication, shared that his late uncle's resting place at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute, Texas, had been repeatedly targeted by thieves. On each occasion, the culprits made off with a bronze memorial vase valued at $600 ( 49,236) that had been placed on the grave.

Taking precautions, Velazquez decided to place an AirTag inside the vase, anticipating another theft. When the vase was stolen again, Velazquez promptly provided the AirTag's information to the authorities, enabling them to track not only the vase but also several other stolen items. The tracking led them to a residence located 45 minutes away. The police commented, "They gave us the login information and allowed us to track it. We successfully traced it back to a residence just outside the town of Brazoria."

Apple's AirTag not only aided law enforcement in apprehending the thieves but also astonished everyone by assisting in the recovery of over $62,000 worth of stolen bronze memorial vases. It was revealed that the thieves had stolen a total of 102 vases over the past two months. Clute Police Chief James Fitch noted that the thieves had intended to quickly sell the vases at a local scrap yard for monetary gain.
