Apple expected to launch not one but two affordable iPhones: Report

  • In the code for iOS 14 there was information about a larger Apple iPhone SE or iPhone 9
  • Both these phones will be powered by the A13 Bionic chipset

NEW DELHI : Apple’s launch plans may have taken a hit because of the coronavirus outbreak but that hasn’t stopped the company from working on new hardware. New iOS software has provided more hints about the upcoming budget iPhones.

Prior reports claimed that Apple is working on small compact iPhone SE2. However, the latest revelation, spotted by 9to5Mac, claims that there’s more than one budget device that Apple is working on.

In the code for iOS 14, according to the report, there was information about a larger Apple iPhone SE/ iPhone 9. If the report turns out to be true, this new line-up may be the replacement of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Both these phones will be powered by the A13 Bionic chipset. Another interesting design choice will be the comeback of the home button on the iPhones. Evidence about the once-iconic home button has been found in the recent software. The home button was discontinued after the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The Touch ID is expected to replace the much more expensive FaceID on the more recent Apple iPhones.

The smaller iPhone SE2/ iPhone 9 is expected to feature a small 4.7-inch LCD screen whereas the iPhone SE2 Plus/ iPhone 9 Plus is expected to feature a larger 5.5-inch screen. These design choices will give Apple enough room to lower the prices of the new iPhones. The phones will get an NFC reader and will also be able to use Apple Pay.

The new phones will help Apple compete in the entry level premium segment that is mostly dominated by its Android counterparts. The devices will also be an excellent pick for Apple buyers who wait out the latest technology to get substantial price cuts.
