Game maker Activision's latest release Call of Duty: Mobile, made in conjuncture with Tencent Games, is the number one free app on the Google Play Store in as many as 33 countries, according to a Sensor Tower report.
The game is being praised widely for its inclusion of multiple game modes.Call of Duty: Mobile has combined its signature gaming modes like Team Deathmatch, Search & Destroy, Domination, Frontline with the more contemporary Battle Royale, offering more range of choices than any other free free-person-shooter.
The game also offers a fast-paced gameplay along with high-quality graphics.
The game might be exactly what Activision was seeking after a bumpy first quarter of the year. Its parent company, Activision Blizzard, announced job cuts in February following spotty results that roiled its stocks.
One of the largest game makers in the world, Activision in November last year said its key titles, such as Overwatch and Hearthstone, were seeing flat or declining numbers of users.
The second half of this year, however, is looking good for Activision, as both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the mobile release are looking set to shape up the company's trajectory in the right direction. It is also benefiting from higher investments in its franchises to fend off competition from blockbuster games "Fortnite" and "Apex Legends".
Although the game is free to download from the Play Store and App Store, it does have in-game purchases and microtransactions. This will help Activision to reap up some revenue from the game.
