Xiaomi India will not be conducting any launch event in the month of March. The company revealed, in a letter that there will be no product launch events in view of the coronavirus outbreak. Xiaomi India was all geared up to launch the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro at an event on March 12 but, the latest cases of coronavirus in the capital has urged the company to cancel the events.
"There is a global outbreak of Coronavirus COVID-19 that has affected people severely. Given this unprecedented situation, we have an important update for you. We won’t be holding any launch events on-ground throughout March in India. While we’ve been planning this launch for months, we believe this step is crucial," the company said in a statement.
However, the launches will happen via online-only events. The company further stated, “for the next Redmi Note launch, please join us online for a live stream launch on out social media handles and mi.com. We plan to make this online-only launch truly ‘note-worthy’."
Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro at the online-only event on 12 March. The company had revealed the launch date for the new devices on Monday. At least one of both the variants is expected to feature a quad rear camera setup. Xiaomi has also hinted that the device will feature a high-refresh rate display. Another interesting feature teased by the company is super fast charging on the new Redmi devices.
Last month, tech companies withdrew from the annual MWC event which eventually lead to the cancellation of the event. In India, there have been a total of five positive cases of coronavirus and the authorities are trying to screen more people on airports.
